Challenges
A car cabin swings between heat and cold, bakes in UV, and rubs against seatbelts, keys and daily use — all under strict safety rules. The key challenges for this automotive PU leather project were:
- The surface must resist abrasion and UV without fading or cracking.
- Material must pass FMVSS 302 and ISO 3795 flammability.
- Perforated grades supplied for ventilated and heated seats.
- Low-VOC, low-odor finish for sealed cabin air quality.
Solution
We matched the grade to each part of the cabin. High-contact seats used 1.5–2.0 mm material with Martindale abrasion above 30,000 cycles and a heat- and light-stable resin system, while perforated grades went to ventilated and heated seats. Embossing, color and topcoats were tuned to the program’s hand-feel and trim.
Every batch was tested for UV exposure, dry and wet colorfastness, and horizontal-burn flammability to FMVSS 302, ISO 3795 and GB 8410. All material was supplied REACH-, OEKO-TEX- and SGS-compliant with a low-VOC finish, and samples were approved before bulk and OEM production.
