Challenges
Upholstery faces daily abrasion and spills, demands identical color across large cutting runs, and must clear export compliance — all while keeping material cost and waste low. The key challenges for this furniture PU leather project were:
- Uniform color and grain across full rolls, no hide defects.
- Surface must resist abrasion, spills and daily contact.
- High cutting yield with minimal waste on large runs.
- Low-VOC material, REACH- and OEKO-TEX-compliant for export.
Solution
We matched the grade to the use. High-traffic commercial seating used a hard-wearing polycarbonate-resin PU, while residential sofas used a softer standard grade with the right hand-feel. Consistent-width rolls with even color and grain raised cutting yield and cut waste, and embossing, color and topcoats were tuned to the program.
Every batch was tested for abrasion and dry and wet colorfastness, then checked for consistency before shipping. Water-based and solvent-free grades were offered to lower VOCs, and all material was supplied REACH- and OEKO-TEX-compliant, with samples approved before bulk and OEM production.
